I've not had much time for radio projects this summer. Lots of other things have grabbed my time. I've still been working some DX and the amplifier continues to put out 500 watts. So the 40m station is working well.
I've noticed quite a bit of spam coming through the comments on the blog. What a mess. People posting to increase their page rank on google no doubt. I've added a simple "human" check to screen out robots. I'll see if that works, otherwise I will have to turn the comments off.
It looks like preventing spam in blog comments is not easy. There are determined people out there who litterally pay workers in China to defeat Captcha's and other human detectors. I wonder if my little blog about Ham radio deserves such attention. I doubt it. In the game of google page rank, a link from a site is much more important if the site itself has a high page rank. I can't imagine a link from my site carries much weight.

Well, there has been no spam for 24 hours. Let\\\'s see how long my simple human detector lasts before the robot army defeats it.... |

It's worth noting that this simple change - just a few lines of PHP code added to the bottom of the page - was enough to end all spam. Again, if I had more traffic then this would not be enough. But it works for now. I'll post an update here if it gets defeated. |

It is worth noting that nearly 7 years later a few lines of PHP is still enough to keep the robots away. Long may it be that way :) |
